Introduction
In my final year honours Major project, I was tasked with formulating a design solution to real-world problems.
Through personal experience, conversations with friends, and research from industry psychologists, I found that people struggle to meet new people with similar passions, people struggle to begin new hobbies centered around passions, and people suffer from a lack of community.
Fostering Passions
To begin designing a solution, it was first necessary to determine the best way to communicate the passions of others. I am greatly inspired by video and as such, found the roots of my solution in film.
My first ideas revolved around short documentary films that communicated why passions are so important.
A change of direction
I later realized that the longevity of a series of documentary films was not practical. I would need to create all the films myself and this would not be sustainable. But what if other people could create these films that told stories of passion? What if I could create a platform that allows for the sharing of these stories and users could upload their own films?
Building a website + app
The platform therefore evolved into a website and an app where a user can watch, and share, stories of passion. The aim of this platform was to broaden the understanding of different passions, and to foster communities of like-minded individuals.
App Design
The app interface was constructed to watch and discover videos easily. My newfound passion for UI design shaped everything from wireframes to final appearance. The colour palette conveys confidence and passion while retaining a slick attitude of professionalism.
